Evidenced Based is Best!

Never Stop Critically Thinking

I'm an RMT and have been for quite a few years now. I went to school and learned so very much about human anatomy, pathologies that can wreak havoc on our bodies, ways in which I could help, and so so much more. I am extremely happy I chose the career I did! The thing is, like with many educational programs it is outdated and based on historical beliefs and traditions.

Stepping out into the world, fresh-faced (sort of, I went back to school later in life ha!) I was ready to conquer, and elicit change in people that would make their lives all around better because I fixed their pain, dysfunction or issue.

Honestly, it didn't take long for me to start questioning why it kept taking so long to see long-lasting effects. I was doing all the things I learned... And yes, I am a good therapist, I am a "deep tissue" therapist and my clients have always raved and referred others, and yes I have seen change and helped many, but it was frustrating to not see change quickly and effectively. I took some con-ed courses but it seemed to be more of the same and still wasn't getting the results as quick as me and my clients would like.

Do not get me wrong traditional massage has its place and its benefits, but if I truly wanted to follow the 3 pillars of massage ensuring that my practice was Safe, Effective & Ethical, I needed to find better ways to help. I started searching and...

I found Rapid-NFR
I signed up immediately!

Just kidding... I took some time and read up on the program and did some research on what they were claiming.

Gotta be on the lookout for them snake oil sales!!!

AND GUESS WHAT?!

I can't stop, won't stop, promoting and using RAPID-NFR as the primary treatment in my practice or continuing to take the courses they offer.

I refuse to stop investing in my education which is an investment in your care and health!

Whether you've just had an injury or reduction in mobility or you've tried many other forms of treatment and nothing has worked, RAPID gets results.

How? Let's get kinda science-y!

You'll often hear references to "knots" or "adhesions" when chatting about the body and what ails it. Adhesions are hyper-stimulated nociceptors (sensory receptors that react to stimulation which may cause damage or a threat to the body) and this hyper-stimulation causes prolonged excitability in the central nociceptive pathways, leading to tissue changes from neurogenic (nervous system) inflammation.

These adhesions may show up as scars, areas of tension, restricted tissue, etc., and will contribute to dysfunction or pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, and nerve entrapment.

RAPID NeuroFascial Reset is the application of precise manual pressure, at the same time, you move in a directed way and this stimulates your mechanoreceptors (sensory receptors that respond to mechanical pressure or distortion) in the structures of your body that have involvement in your specific issue.

Through this pressure and your movement, we are asking the mechanoreceptors to release Substance P (a vital role in the healing process), to aid in the elimination of sensitizing immune cells and activating the endocannabinoid system (the body's natural regulator and an important part of the healing process)

Substance P can also aid in healing older injuries that haven't fully recovered, by eliminating immune cells contributing to peripheral nociceptive sensitization. The immune cells have been hanging out too long, their job is done and they need to skedaddle!

We are working with the Neuroimmune System here!

Nervous tissue is the only tissue in the body that can adapt and change quickly within the time allotted during treatment, so why not access it, why not use it?? Why waste our time, effort, and money? It no longer makes sense to me to do it any other way!

This technique is also effective for chronic injuries too, because movement accompanied by tolerable pain boosts self-efficacy, this helps to reduce fear surrounding movement that is causing discomfort or pain. Now while RAPID treatment may cause discomfort as it triggers nociception for Substance P release, those of us who have been trained in Rapid are in fact trained to adjust within your tolerance levels.

Reduce the pain, reduce the fear of movement, and get back to doing you boo!! And yes continue to get a traditional massage because it feels good, and still has positive benefits.

Changes in research and curriculum are being made as the years progress but we have a long way to go.

We have to keep pushing. We have to keep challenging. Most importantly we have to keep learning, researching & asking for change!

Forever grateful for Rapid-NFR,
Kristin ❤
