Tips to make the most of your massage

We all want to get the most out of our massage sessions so it may be important to note some tips that can help achieve just that!

1. Schedule your appointment strategically

  • When you schedule your appointment try and ensure you are not going to be rushing to get to your treatment. With that also try end ensure that you won't be rushing out after your massage to another appointment. NO one wants to be extra stressed and rushed before their massage but most definitely no one wants to immediately reverse the effects a massage has by rushing out afterwards.
  • Also consider how you feel after a massage. Do you feel sleepy? Invigorated? Depending on how you typically feel afterwards will dictate if you should start or finish our day with a massage or if maybe weekends are your best option.
2. Don't eat or drink too much prior
  • Massage stimulates our digestive system, if you have eaten a larger meal you may feel bloated and uncomfortable causing you to be unable to fully relax and enjoy your treatment.
  • You don't want to be starving however as that doesn't feel great either! opt for a nice light snack to keep the hunger pangs at bay.
  • Bathroom breaks can be taken, of course, but the last thing you want is your bladder interrupting your treatment, try and keep the fluids to a minimum before your appointment and make sure to use the facilities prior to starting. Make sure afterwards to get those fluids in and hydrate your beautiful self!
3. Be open and honest with your therapist
  • First things first, fill out your health history completely and honestly. We do not want to cause harm and if we don't have a proper health history we could cause damage.
  • With a proper health history we can also find that your pain or imbalance is stemming from a completely different area in your body than you think! So your previous injuries can help us determine where we need to work and we can then assist in rehabilitating and getting you back to tip top shape.
  • To add to the above your current medications, illnesses etc. can change the way we need to work on your body so please do not leave out this information! We do not want to do harm! The way a medication affects your body can also affect the way we need to do certain treatments.
  • Pressure check!! We will always ask your preference before we start but we want feedback as we go. One persons "deep" is another persons "light". Alternatively some areas can take more pressure than others but due to touch being subjective we ask you to speak up, you won't hurt our feelings!
  • Ask questions, if you have any questions about what is happening with your body or what massage does just ask! We are more than willing to geek out a bit and give you the low down!!
4. Homecare
  • Stretches or exercises that are given after your treatment are actually important for recovery and rehabilitation.
  • Not doing the prescribed homecare will likely make your healing journey that much longer.
  • If we have prescribed anything that you cannot comfortably do or that just isn't working for you or heck if you can't fit it in, let us know!!! We have a ton of great ways to work with you and your schedule to help get you on track.
  • This is a team effort, we will do whatever we can to help you during your treatment and to help outside that time if you need to call or email or text, you do also need to put in the time between appointments for the best outcome.
5. Less is NOT more
  • While we wish that all your aches and pains could be removed in one visit, sadly they cannot.
  • Depending on what you are specifically looking to achieve through massage therapy will determine how many appointments you may need. Injuries will require more frequent appointments than relaxation. We can let you know at your first appointment, after assessing, what we recommend for you based on what you want to get out of your sessions.
  • Your treatment plan will be tailored to you as an individual and is a fluid plan. We will reassess at certain intervals and revisit the plan to make changes as your body heal and adapts.

We are committed to your health and the health of your body. Let's work together to make sure you are at your best for living your everyday life!

See you soon 💗 Kristin
